Abbott Diagnostics (ADD) has a new opening for Sr. Manager Finance - R&D Financial Planning and Analysis. This individual is the financial partner and counsel to ADD R&D leadership.  This position participates in strategic initiatives and provides financial information which enables timely and effective decision making. This role has full responsibility for the planning and execution of key financial processes across ADD R&D, including Plan, RLBEs, Confirmations, Actuals Reporting, Balance Sheet, etc.  In addition, this role is responsible for developing ad hoc analytics and reporting as requested by Division, Corporate and/or R&D Leadership as needed.

Responsibilities include:     

Lead development of the annual Plan for all ADD R&D organizations, including Transfusion, Research, Assay Development, Medical/Clinical Affairs, IP/Licensing, R&D Quality, new product development Support/Engineering/PMO, etc.  Coordinate with PMO to understand and incorporate R&D Long Rage Portfolio and Commercial prioritization when developing annual Plan.  Prepare Division Plan Review Book and all required Division/Corporate schedules.


Lead quarterly RLBE and Confirmation processes for all ADD R&D organizations.  Develop timely and accurate P&L forecasts for all ADD R&D spend.  Understand and communicate key forecast assumptions and potential material risks and opportunities to the forecasts.  Lead RLBE and Confirmation reviews with R&D Controller.  Prepare schedules and commentary required for Division submission.

Develop and distribute monthly actuals reporting package.  Prepare R&D VP Staff Meeting and Transfusion VP monthly review packages.  Prepare and/or review other monthly financial results presentations for each R&D organization as needed.  Review and ensure timely submission of R&D actuals and require commentary to Division.

Develop timely and accurate Balance Sheet forecasts for Plan and RLBEs.  Periodically review Balance Sheet to ensure accuracy.  Review and approve all Balance Sheet reconciliations prepared by R&D FP&A.  Provide oversight on Genpact/Hub prepared Balance Sheet reconciliations when needed.

Assume a significant leadership role in the identification, development and implementation of financial policies and procedures across the R&D organization.  Identify and implement creative solutions to complex financial challenges in an environment of changing business needs.  Provide financial counsel to all R&D business partners and prepare ad hoc analyses as required.

Lead, motivate, manage and develop a professional staff through education, training, coaching and guidance.  Direct the day to day execution of the FP&A team to achieve the organization’s business and financial goals.  Maintain the effectiveness of and ensure compliance with Internal Controls.  Ensure SOX compliance.  Implement and maintain the effectiveness of the quality system.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree; preferably in finance/accounting. An MBA; CPA and/or CMA are desirable.

Minimum Experience / Training Required:

Eight + years of progressive Finance and Accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory capacity.

Preferred Experience:
Experience supporting the Diagnostics business and/or the R&D function is preferred.
